10 Things Florida Residents Should Know About Divorce: Marital Assets

If you are a Florida resident who is currently going through or is considering a divorce, there are a couple of things about the divorce process that you should understand before speaking with an attorney. This will not only save you time but also money.

Any debts and assets generated during the marriage referred to as “marital assets,” will be divided fairly or “equitably,” upon divorce. Any assets you had before marriage might be considered “non-marital assets,” assuming that they were kept separated from your marital property and assets obtained throughout the marriage. If that’s the case, you and your spouse can each keep your non-marital assets after divorce.
