Seventy-nine point six percent of custodial mothers receive a child support award, while only 29.6 percent of custodial fathers receive a support award.

Whether this disparity is a result of bias in the courts nationwide or a reflection of gender inequality in earnings, whos’ to say.  In Florida, the courts have very little sway in the award of child support.  Florida courts use a straightforward formula based on the custody arrangements and relative earnings of each parent.  There’s a little discretionary room, but it is not often exercised.

If you need an idea what the child support would look like if you were to divorce, or would like a review to see if your child support arrangements are appropriate, don’t hesitate to call the family law attorneys at Brandon Legal Group.
