Does Being Granted Full Custody Affect the Amount of Child Support?

In general, the amount of time that one parent has custody of the child will not affect the amount of child support or the court’s child support order. This is true as long as one parent has been granted primary custody. Therefore, if each parent has approximately 50% custody of the child, or split custody, then in that event, child support is generally not awarded.

Every jurisdiction has its own guideline regarding child support that the noncustodial parent must pay to the custodial parent.
