Myth #4 – I Will Go to Jail If I Cannot Pay My Child Support Obligation

THIS IS NOT TRUE!

The important word here is “cannot”.  If you cannot make your child support payment, for a good reason, like losing a job, you would not be held criminally liable, and would not go to jail.

Clearly there are major ramifications is you “choose” to not pay child support, as opposed to not being physically able to.

Florida has very stringing Dead Beat Dad laws.

In the event of a major life event that prevents you from being able to make child support payments, the judge should be involved in approving a temporary cessation of support.
