Myth #9 – Wages Cannot Be Garnished For Unpaid Child Support

THIS IS NOT TRUE!

The truth of the matter could not be more different than the above assumption.

Child support payments can be garnished from your paycheck, even if you have never been late, even if you never underpaid the support.

In addition, your federal tax refund, and even unemployment payments can be garnished for child support.  In the end, everything about child support is for the welfare of the children.  It has nothing to do with either of the spouses.  Every effort must be made to ensure that the children are adequately provided for in the event of a divorce.  These laws also apply to parents who are not married but genetically share a child.
