Tomorrow is the last day of National Marriage Week this year. This holiday started on Tuesday February 7th and will fittingly come to a close tomorrow on the 14th with Valentine’s Day.
Although it may seem counterproductive to mention such an occasion as a law firm full of divorce lawyers, being family law attorneys doesn’t mean that we are rooting for marriages to fail. We too are happy when we hear that couples have decided to try and work on their relationships instead of getting a divorce right away. Even with Valentine’s Day, the month of February often seems to have a high occurrence of new divorce filings. Our society today lives in a culture where divorce is common and sometimes it is in the best interest of both parties to go their separate ways. But sometimes it is not.
The goal of National Marriage Week is to celebrate the many happy marriages across the United States and to work toward saving some ones that may currently be going through a rough patch. No matter your situation, – newlyweds, couples going on 50 years of marriage together, same-sex partners, people on their second marriage, people on their third marriage, or those who are even just engaged- every relationship has room for improvement. This week is a good time to reflect on how you could make your marriage stronger. Marriage counseling can be beneficial for any couple. Vow to make time for regular date nights. With Valentine’s Day tomorrow you have a good opportunity to create some romance. Whatever you do, use this week to remember to make your spouse and your marriage a priority in your life.
