What Does “Best Interests of the Child” Mean in Court?
Child custody and kid support decisions are made by family law courts based on what is considered the child’s best interests. This refers to what he or she considers to be the “best” or most perfect scenario. These standards will vary by state, but in general, the court will assume that a child’s best interests are served by maintaining relationships with both parents to the greatest extent possible.
