Meet Our Attorneys

Ingrid Hooglander
In 2008 after gaining years of experience under the watchful eyes of her predecessors, including the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office, and multiple privately-owned companies, Ms. Hooglander decided in 2008 to open her private practice that has grown into what Brandon Legal Group is today.
Ms. Hooglander has not only spent significant time in the courtroom, but in the classroom as well. Ms. Hooglander is an accomplished professor who has taught at the University of Phoenix, Kaplan University, Hillsborough Community College, and Saint Leo University. She has taught courses in the areas of business administration, criminal justice, and paralegal studies.
Ms. Hooglander does not just sit behind a desk all day and sleep at night. She enjoys physical fitness, and her weight lifting and kickboxing training has even contributed to a reputation as a “force of nature” in her personal life and her presence in the courtroom.

Luke Mattson
After receiving his Juris Doctorate, Mr. Mattson quickly relocated from the Midwest to Florida where he became a member of the Florida Bar in 1998. Mr. Mattson identified his niche in Family Law and has focused his practice in that area since 2000.
In particular, Mr. Mattson often handles matters involving divorce, timesharing, parenting plans, child support, alimony, paternity, and civil domestic violence. He also drafts, enforces, and defends matters involving both prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements. Mr. Mattson’s extensive experience allows him to litigate matters from the beginning through trial.
Mr. Mattson might look like he’s all business, but you’d be surprised to discover the incredible fun loving attitude he brings to the practice. When outside the court room, Mr. Mattson can often be found watching a Lightning game or riding his bike around downtown Tampa.

Family Law & Divorce
Divorce, custody disagreements, child support issues, and alimony conflicts are difficult to manage. No matter the need, or which side of the fence you are on, Brandon Legal Group will enthusiastically represent you.
A personal approach provides you with crucial details that could prove to be the difference in your negotiation or litigation.
Having an aggressive, yet caring attorney on your side in court is critical in protecting your family.

Criminal Defense
Whether you are facing juvenile crimes, drug related crimes, domestic crimes, or any other criminal action, compassionate and aggressive legal support could make the difference between incarceration, innocence, expungement, or any point in between.
DUI/BUI Defense
Despite the many avenues of getting home after a night out on the town, few of us take advantage of these and make the mistake of getting behind the wheel. Getting pulled over for DUI/DWI can have far reaching effects on your life.
Attempting to handle incarceration on your own could be your second mistake. The intricacies of the legal wrangling in a DUI/DWI case are difficult for most to understand and navigate without the aid of experienced legal counsel.

Personal Injury
When you've been injured, and the deck appears stacked against you, a dedicated Personal Injury Attorney will ensure that you have someone on your side who can navigate the legal system and protect your rights.
Insurance companies that protect business and vehicle owners from Personal Injury claims do not get wealthy by looking out for the injured.
Your Personal Injury Attorney is there to level the playing field, and to protect your rights to medical treatment, and fair compensation for your injuries.

Debunking Florida Family Law Myths
Children can chose which parent to live with.
Children, especially young children, are not mature enough to make the decision of which parent they should be with in the eyes of the court. The reasonable preference of the child (especially older children) is one of many factors that the courts may consider in deciding timesharing. The number one factor, is always, “What is in the best interest of the children”.
Having an attorney makes you look guilty.
You may be great at a lot of things, but when is the last time you were lead counsel in a criminal matter? Every individual has a constitutional right to experienced legal counsel no matter the magnitude of the matter. In many instances, the Court may prefer working with experienced Counsel rather than a layman, as all litigating parties will be held to the same legal standard and process.
Lawyers just complicate the process.
Experienced attorneys should foresee pitfalls in your case and reduce the chances of last-second surprises that delay or disrupt the finalization of your legal matter. Attorneys know the process, know the nuances of varying judges' courtrooms, and can provide you with the proper resources to make the best decisions in your matter.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a retainer?
There a few different types of retainer in the legal world. A regular ‘retainer’ is a sum of money paid to an attorney to be available when you need them. This could be monthly, annually, or a single payment. It, however, does not actually pay for legal services but rather for their availability. An advanced fee retainer are monies paid to an attorney and kept in a trust account in a ledger under your name for which your accrued legal fees will be charged against. A refurbishment retainer is an advanced fee retainer paid to your trust account when your original advanced fee retainer is almost exhausted.
- Can I call the attorney if I need something?
Yes. You can always contact your attorney or paralegal for things that may arise in your case. A lot of communications are done through email, but a phone call is always a valid means of communication with your attorney and depending on the type of case it may be the preferred method.
- What is Attorney-Client privilege?
The Attorney – Client privilege refers to the legal privilege that maintains confidentiality between all attorney client conversations and/or communications.
