What does “treatment plan” mean?

Under Florida law children with a delinquency petition filed against them may be able to participate in a diversion program. The child agrees to follow certain conditions and gives up the right to a speedy trial. In return, the delinquency petition will ultimately be dismissed, and the child’s record expunged if the child complies with the conditions. Should the child not comply with the conditions, he/she will face the delinquency petition again. The treatment plan is a great way for the child to avoid a record in juvenile court while still “paying for the crime.” Included in the plan must be the state attorney’s approval to defer prosecution.
